Colonel Sanders, the Man Behind KFC

Early Life and Career

Harland David Sanders, better known as Colonel Sanders, was born on September 9, 1890, in Henryville, Indiana. His early life was marked by challenges, including the death of his father when he was only six years old. After a series of odd jobs, Sanders enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 16.

Upon leaving the Army, Sanders worked in various roles, including as a railroad worker and a gas station attendant. In 1930, he opened a service station in Corbin, Kentucky, which became known for its fried chicken.

KFC and the Colonel

Sanders' fried chicken recipe proved to be a success, and in 1952, he franchised his first Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant. The chain quickly grew in popularity, and Sanders became an iconic figure, known for his white suit, black string tie, and goatee.

Sanders sold KFC in 1964 but remained involved in the company as a goodwill ambassador. He passed away on December 16, 1980, at the age of 90.

Legacy

Colonel Sanders' legacy lives on through KFC, which has become one of the world's largest fast-food chains. His fried chicken recipe continues to be enjoyed by millions of people around the world.
