Forgotten NBA Playoffs: Chauncey Billups' 2004 Western Conference Semis Masterpiece

A Lost Gem in NBA History

In the annals of NBA history, some playoff performances shine brighter than others. Michael Jordan's "Flu Game" and Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point outburst are just a few examples of iconic moments that have etched themselves into basketball lore. However, there are also hidden gems, lesser-known performances that deserve to be celebrated.

Billups' Dominance in 2004

One such gem is Chauncey Billups' masterful display in the 2004 Western Conference Semifinals between the Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves. In a series that would eventually go to seven games, Billups was a one-man wrecking crew.

In Game 2, Billups torched the Timberwolves for an unforgettable stat line of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 32 assists - breaking the NBA record for assists in a playoff game. It was a virtuoso performance that single-handedly willed the Pistons to a crucial victory.

Billups' dominance didn't stop there. In Game 5, he poured in another 21 points and dished out 10 assists, leading the Pistons to an overtime win and a 3-2 series lead.

Despite the Timberwolves' valiant efforts, Billups and the Pistons ultimately prevailed, advancing to the Western Conference Finals. While the Pistons fell to the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, Billups' unforgettable performance in the semifinals remains a testament to his greatness.
