Chelsea Handler has opened up about her former relationship with fellow comic Jo Koy, revealing that they broke up after nearly a year of dating because she realized that "you can't change a person intrinsically."
"I realized that you can't change a person intrinsically. You can only accept them for who they are," Handler said in an episode of Brooke Shields' podcast, "Now What?"
Handler and Koy went public with their relationship in September 2021. They had been friends for two decades before their relationship became romantic.
"We're not on bad terms. We're just not together," Handler said. "I think we both agreed that we couldn't be what the other person needed. And that's okay."
Koy confirmed their breakup in an exclusive interview with Page Six, saying, "Our split was beautiful. We love each other very much. And we know that it was the right thing to do."
